Ian Jones
Alex Loyd, Amiel, Shane Nicholson

At the age of 11, Ian started in playing in various local bands in the small town of Ross on the south island of New Zealand. By 15 he was was touring New Zealand regularly with Blues icon Midge Marsden. Following a stint with a local jazz unit he immersed himself in the New Zealand jazz scene, but at 21 decide it was time to travel further a field. Ian moved to Frankfurt, Germany where he could experience first hand the cream of the world Jazz community. While in Germany, he had the privilege of studying with Andreas Neubauer, one of the country's top drummers. Neubauer was pivotal in developing Ian's skills and helped him get gigs in a very tight scene.

During this period, Ian was offered a chance to fill in for a friend doing a run of shows up and down England with the Nolan Sisters! After that was over he decided to stay in England and try his luck. Thankfully he landed himself regular gigs with the dance act "Vivid," who were on popular in the burgeoning rave scene. Ian had always used samplers and triggers, but this was chance to expand on them more fully.

During Ian's stay in London, he was offered the New Zealand tour of "Jesus Christ Superstar." Getting to play all the tunes Virgil Donati made famous the previous year during the "in the round" tour in Australia was an offer too good to miss. So for eight months Ian toured New Zealand with the biggest show the country had seen. At the end of the season Ian went on to have his biggest break to date, joining the multi-platinum selling band Supergroove.

For the next four years Supergroove toured non-stop through Australasia and the world, taking in places like India and Finland. As fate would have it, Supergroove had their last gig in Sydney. So in true "just get on with it" attitude, Ian anchored himself in Sydney where he has played with many of Australia's leading performers. He is often the first call guy for sampling and programming duties.

Throughout it all, Ian has maintained his strong passion for electronic music, namely Drum n' Bass and breaks. His own project "the go karts" (formerly "Geek") is his vehicle for this passion and he is constantly pushing the boundaries of what can be done from behind the drum kit.
